Happy Birthday, Your Majesty

I know that it’d be a pretty typical thing for me to wish Happy Birthday to someone like Lolly Foy or John who play the king and queen out at the Renaissance Festival, but in this case I really do mean the Queen, Elizabeth II Regina. Today she turned 80. I know that of the entire population of Scotland the number of supporters of the Crown are probably limited to those who are in fact English, but I was still rather fond of them. If nothing else I liked to engage in the age-old game of commoners everywhere and imagine what it must have been like growing up knowing that you’re different from everyone else . . . and not in a bad way for once!

Anyway. So I thought that was kinda cool. Nothing much going on in my neck of the woods. I seem to live a rather boring life, as it turns out. I spend most of my days “doing work” (ie; surfing the net, avoiding doing work) and then whenever I can I try to spend my evenings with a pretty young lady by the name of A____. Yes, I’ve been reading too much Poe and the like. But A____ she’ll remain for the time being (in the interest of not further-jinxing an already-doomed relationship, that is. And yes, she’s the same girlie I took to Tombstone, Much Ado and whatnot. We had a blast on all counts, btw). Anyway, the point is that I think that means that I’ve officially joined the “working stiff world.” Work, play, work, play. Repeat until retirement and/or death. Hmmmm. It’s strange, that’s for damned sure.

Of course success in my chosen profession still eludes me. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I was more than a little discouraged, but I’m not about to give it up yet. It’s the closest thing I’ve got to an actual career possibility so I’m not going to abandon it just because it’s not rendering up instant success. I am however going to seek a job in my previous pugilistic profession (yay alliteration!) and find a part time Door Steward job somewhere. I’m also earning a bit of spending cash by doing design work for SSC. We’ll have to see how that goes.

That’s a lot of writing for some poor sap to have to read, so I’ll take my leave. I hope you’re all just horribly well and I’ll speak to you soon I hope. Maybe by the time I write back something interesting will actually have happened!

Ciao.

Update.

Been a while, so I thought I’d let everyone know that I am indeed alive and well . . . er . . . well, at least I’m alive!

So business. Business is still going and I’m drumming up a bit more interest, though none of it has translated itself into any success as yet. I went on a listing presentation last week but my competition promised all sorts of things that I couldn’t (up to and including a commission cut AS WELL AS a promise to have their house professionally cleaned and landscaped) so the sellers went with the other guy instead. I can’t really blame them, but I hope they realize that under those conditions the realtor is almost certainly passing the commission discount on to the buyer’s broker meaning no one is going to be lining up to bring their clients to see the property.

Anyway. Moving on. I’m surviving happily with Faire being over, though even with (or perhaps because of) my abreviated run I still find myself really missing being out there every weekend among friends new and old. I also miss the flirting games, though those have continued to one extent or another since the end of the run. I have been spending a lot of time with one young lady in particular and I’m really digging her. I really know how to pick ‘em though. She’s moving across the country in a few months. So that’ll be fun. With my track record in mind, I’ll probably fall for her totally and completely about two weeks before she leaves. I got mad skillz, yo. Speaking of her though, we’re going to be going to see SSC’s production of “Much Ado About Nothing” on Friday night — and those who’ve not seen it absolutely should! I caught Sunday’s matinee and laughed until my sides hurt! After that we’re leaving Saturday morning to drive down to Tombstone to be tourists. She’s never been and I’d like to get some pictures of the Rose Tree. I know, I know. Rather gauche to be bringing a date to the site of your wedding, but whatever. It’s entirely too beautiful a place to not share with others!

Other news. Other news. Hmmmmm. Well, we’ve got Easter celebration as usual at my folks’ house. The last number for attendance that I heard was somewhere around 35. By no means the most we’ve ever had come to our little soiree, but not the least either! Geez. That’s about all I can think of for the moment, actually. I think I need some sleep. OK, OK, some more sleep!

Take care everyone.

. . . is apparently named Delta Goodrem. She’s also apparently the 98th Sexiest Woman in the world for 2004, according to FHM. Sweet personality? Dunno. Nice to animals? Haven’t a clue. Good all around person? Who cares? Just look at her!

Oh, and my very good friend Young Nik looks just like Miss Charlotte Church (but with blue-er eyes), this year’s number 15. Alas, she too is taken (Nik that is. I don’t know or care if Charlotte Church is taken. I’m done with those opera singer types)!

May I also say once again, that insomnia really sucks.

Slainte.

“I can’t forget I am my sole architect
I built the shadows here
I built the growlin’ voice I fear.
You add it up, but to do better than that
You got to follow me
Boy I’m trying to show you where I’m at.”

Took the camera out again yesterday for the final day of Faire. While my results are not nearly as artistic as some of those from last week, I’ve made up for it in other areas. For example, I’ve got pictures of the princess in her boobie-licious bodice. I’ve got the king getting in a water fight with a young pirate (and winning admirably, I might add). There are members of the Royal Court attempting backbends and hand stands with varying degrees of success. There’s the joust, and finally there’s the cast party with all the smuttiness that went along with it. So in short there’s fun for the whole family. Or at least for pervy guys with cameras! So just go to www.ashrhodes.com/photos/faire2/index.htm to check it out (should you so desire of course!) and know what you’ve been missing out on! You know you wanna audition for next year, doncha?!?
