Sorry I haven’t been contributing a lot recently. I don’t have much of an excuse other than to say that when my brain goes on holiday, it really goes on holiday. Over the past couple of weeks I have done as little as possible which bears resemblance to intellectual work. Pretty sad for a (hopefully) soon-to-be owner of a Master’s Degree, but true nonetheless. On that front, I met today with Katie Lowe, one of the course convenors for the GCMRS, and re-established my worth as a student. It was mostly a meeting to catch up and see what’s what, but I was still nervous since it was near this time last year that I got the rug pulled out from under me by my previous course convenor, Steve Driscoll (who has since gotten tenure . . . damnit!). I’m no longer overly worried about such things as, in Katie’s own words, “I have no concerns whatsoever about your ability to pass this course.” Yay.
I really don’t have much else to report. While I miss Arizona greatly, this makes me pretty happy to be in a place which considers 90 degrees a heatwave. My summers working in the Arizona summer heat for Costco and Elward taught me to appreciate the ability to go from air-conditioned space to air-conditioned space that most people take for granted. I can’t even imagine what it must be like to literally have nowhere to go to get out of the heat . . . or worse yet — imagine what it must have been like when Arizona was younger and there simply was no air-con! The horror!
That’s me for the moment. If something exciting happens I’ll let you all know. If not, I’ll be nice and not waste your time!
“Am I alive or thoughts that drift away?
Does summer come for everyone?
Can humans do what prophets say?”
