Awwww, damnit!

There’s a section on Reddit (called a “subreddit”) called “Today I Fucked Up” or “TIFU” where people can go and, confession-like, dish on how they completely messed up something in their day-to-day lives. From minor to huge.

I’m not really one to post a lot on Reddit, so I’ll just say here that TIFU.

As pretty much anyone who would take the time to read my blog knows, I’m married now but have been one before as well. My first marriage didn’t go well and ended somewhat acrimoniously. While I genuinely no longer harbor my ex-wife any ill will, I have no contact with her at all. She long ago cut all ties and rumour has long had it that she likes to tell tales that I’m a stalker and/or abusive type, so I have tried to go out of my way to make sure that we don’t run in to each other.

You’d think that in a metropolis of 2 million plus people with no friends in common, that would be easy; but it has not always been. There are places I just don’t go because I discovered she worked there at one point and sometimes goes back. People I don’t hang out with that often because she either developed or re-developed friendships. Basically, I go out of my way to ensure that she doesn’t feel threatened by me and that she could never (legitimately) claim that I’m in any way a danger to her.

Today a coworker asked me to go and take a tour of a facility where she’s thinking of hosting a conference in the said grand metropolis. As I am wont to do, I looked up the person I’m going to be meeting with on LinkedIn and fell down the rabbit hole that is LinkedIn, following people in their connection web. It barely even registered that they were in the same industry until I had seen my ex-wife’s name and I clicked on it. I clicked away immediately, but of course now LinkedIn is going to send her a nice email in the next week or so saying “people who have viewed your profile: Ash Rhodes.”

Fuuuck.
