Father’s Day isn’t until tomorrow, but we’re not exactly one for patience in this family (see, for example, our smallest member who just couldn’t wait to be born). In this case, my wife, who frequently depairs at great volume of ever managing to find me presents that A) I genuinely want, B) do not cost a small fortune, and C) I haven’t already bought for myself; proudly proclaimed that she had found me the perfect gift about a month ago.

And then she tortured me about it for the intervening weeks.

She would gloat. She would say “Oh man, I wish that Father’s Day would hurry up so I could give you your present!” (as if SHE were the one suffering). She would quietly ruminate over whether or not I would really like it. Basically, she was being her usual evil self. Because she’s evil.

But she came through and on Thursday (a full three days before Father’s Day) she couldn’t handle it anymore and she gave me my present:

That's right. A great big box of Legos. Because I'm 5.
That’s right. I am this excited about a box of Legos.

Your eyes do not deceive you. That is a great big yellow box of Legos. And no, I have not been lying to you, I am indeed a 35 year old man. Why do I care so much about a box of Legos?

Because these are the first Legos I have EVER. OWNED.

Ever.

Oh sure, when I was about my son’s age, I had some Duplos. The Lego equivalent of safety scissors. But real Legos? The Legos with which you could build worlds and cripple people who were not careful where they were walking on carpet?

NOPE.

I have been giddy since Thursday. I’m gonna be honest, I’m not great at building huge and amazing worlds with them quite yet, but I’ve already started incorporating them into our lives. Here’s a gallery of Mal and me playing with my our new toy as well as the family’s new key holder!

Did I say I was 35? Maybe I’m really just 5. Don’t care. Not at all.  😀
